Men's Workshop Outline
Developed by a seminary-educated pastor, sexual addiction group leader, and author Steven Luff, this program walks you through our “Sexual Sobriety Map” – a clear explanation of the recovery process from “unwanted sexual behavior” to the life God has planned for us. This life we call the “pursuit of unconditional love."
Unwanted Sexual Behavior
This two-part section provides a broad overview of what will be accomplished throughout the program. Its ultimate destination is to answer the question, “Am I really addicted?” Central to this part is the introduction of our “Sexual Sobriety Map,” an at-a-glance tool for locating yourself throughout your recovery process and beyond.
White-Knuckle vs. Real Change
Since change is obviously at the heart of overcoming sexual addiction, the first of these two parts delves into the question “What is Change?” and provides a thorough introduction to the two types of change available for the recovering sex addict: “white-knuckle” and “real.” Just as "iron sharpens iron" (Pr. 27:17) the cornerstone of real change, which is our goal in recovery, is confession and accountability, discussed in the second part of this section.
One of the least-known aspects of sexual addiction is its physiology – that is, the way the brain has changed because of sex being used as a drug and how we can change it back. This section has three parts detailing a portion of the brain called the reward system. These three parts cover what that system is, what happens to the reward system when it has become addicted to sex, and what it will be like changing the reward system back into its normal state.
This section addresses the very goal of this program: going sober from your unwanted sexual behavior and staying sober. There are two parts to this section that will help you learn how to "guard your heart" (Pr. 4:23) -- creating a "victorious environment" for yourself and building an “escape plan” for when you are triggered and want to use your unwanted sexual behavior. These two parts detail what we call our “Sobriety Sheets.”
Acceptance of Conditional Love
For the sexual addict, the root of the addiction is having experienced, or currently experiencing, conditional love. Conditional love, unlike God's love, is being loved or shown attention and affection only if a person behaves or acts a certain way. Conditional love, in all of its many forms, can cause a sense of anxiety that leads the sex addict to act out. This section helps you locate when and where conditional love exists in your life in preparation for our culminating section.
Pursuit of Unconditional Love
If conditional love is the root of sexual addiction, our goal in recovery is the conversion of conditional love into unconditional love. In four powerful parts, this section breaks down this conversion into our “Recovery Targets”: 1) Psychological Examination of Feelings; 2) Seeking, Establishing, and Engaging in Community; 3) Truth, Trust, and Territory; and 4) Development and Exploration of Genuine Faith. For "whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love" (1 John 4:8). For an in depth and detailed Scriptural basis for the X3pure workshop please email your request to support@X3pure.com
X3pure for Women
People of all descriptions grapple with an addiction to porn, struggle with sex and issues from sexual abuse and misuse - especially women. You no longer have to struggle with these issues and the emptiness that come with them. The X3pure workshop can help single and married women begin the recovery process.
There are 15 lessons in 11 sections. You can go at your own pace or follow the recommended 30-day curriculum,- either is fine.
Shellie R. Warren is a woman who has a passion for all things sexual…in the sense of sexual wholeness and purity. As an author, public speaker and teen mom coordinator for a local chapter of a national non-profit in Nashville, TN, she aggressively devotes her time to helping women recover from sexual abuse and misuse. This online workshop is what she calls the “interactive audio book” to accompany her second release, “Pure Heart: A Woman’s Guide to Sexual Integrity”. Her original title was: “Eyes Opened; Legs Closed”. After viewing some of this footage, we think you’ll understand why.
Getting Back to the Garden
This chapter walks us back to the Garden of Eden so that we can be reminded of God’s original plan for sex. It speaks to the beauty of oneness and covenant. Taboo? Perhaps. Attainable? Definitely.
Have Sex…FOR WHAT?
This two-part series addresses the purpose of sex along with both the spiritual and physical consequences that come when it’s used for reasons other than God’s initial intention. Everything has a “reason for which it’s created.” Sex is definitely not an exception.
Sex Always Has Strings (sometimes it’s rope…sometimes its floss)
Sex isn’t just about intercourse. Any kind of sexual activity should be under the covering of marriage. Certain acts, like oral sex, are between the husband and wife; but this two-part section also deals with what Shellie calls, “sexual additives”…things like masturbation and porn that are often used to pacify our sexual appetites, yet never satisfy. We’ll explore why.
Counterfeits: How Sex Is Abused by the Media
Ever look up the synonyms of the word “counterfeit” on Dictionary.com? You might be surprised at what you see. One word that’s listed is “Hollywood.” The last place people should learn about God’s will for their lives is in a magazine or on a television screen. Don’t believe us? You’ll see.
In Shellie’s first book, Inside of Me: Lessons of Lust, Love, and Redemption, she coined a phrase, “sexual misuse”. In life, there are sexual violations that happen to us (abuse), but then, sometimes even due to those very things, there are poor sexual choices that we make on our own. That would be sexual misuse.
Sex’s Hamster Wheel
It took the Israelites 40 days to make an eleven-day trip; in one instance, it took Shellie 15 years to get over one man. Her mother says that “Discernment prevents experience from being your teacher.” She’s hoping this two-part series will spare you the time--and the drama--of having to spend 15 years of your life on something you probably should’ve avoided in the first place.
Treat Me Like a Lady
Sexiness is rampant, yet being a lady seems to be a lost art. When God designed the woman, He desired her to be lovely…delicate…feminine. It’s not a sign of weakness. In it, there is actually a lot of power…once you know how to use it…and why.
Patience Is Virtuous
One of the Scriptures that Shellie holds on to for dear life when it comes to her own DAY-BY-DAY sexual recovery is Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing.” Something that many of us miss is that “nothing” also includes our healing from brokenness. Love is patient, right? Love yourself enough to be patient with the process. This is another two-part that will show you how.
Christ told us in Matthew 17:20-22 that some things only come by prayer and fasting. Shellie’s motto is “Sometimes a mountain is moved…one rock at a time.” The “Past Fast” is what she created and used to reconcile, by way of true forgiveness, with the man who sexually abused her. It changed her life. Completely.
The Gateway Drugs of Sexual Addiction
This is a two-part series of Shellie speaking at an event on the topic of the “sexual mouse holes” that can lead to a much bigger problem. The Scriptures Luke 11:24-26 (NKJV) come to mind: “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he says, ‘I will return from my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it swept and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that man is worse than the first.”
